Principles of Medical Ethics

Before You Donate

Think very seriously before donating to any breastcancer organization, or fundraising program until you read their Annual Report to see who their top contributors are, and if they have a product that appears frequently in the message the organization sends to the public. That would be unethical and its illegal. The same applies to a request that the public buys products, but does not receive a "donor receipt" for tax-deductible purpose. Read any and all food labels that breastcancer "non-profits" are promoting to raise money. Some organizations tell the public to help them raise money by asking you to visit their websites, but that only gives them "hits" to increase their sponsors.

Another tip, "signing" an online Petition is not acceptable, so don't fall for such antics. An ethical non-profit, or professional will not request your visit to their website, nor use "cookies" placed on your computer when you visit their site.

Purchase the Breastcancer Postage Stamp, the Post Office will always give you your charitable deduction receipt. Its a valid form of fund raising.

What you must know right now (to be a wise health-care consumer)!

You are not alone! This applies to any possible condition you want information about in case it affects you—and you've been left hanging with a "possible" problem, or told "let's check in about six months." Do not wait. You deserve more than one opinion. Not one physician would take that advice for anyone s/he loved, nor for him or herself. So, don't you, either.

There are 1000s of women, RNs, and physicians who care about you. Yes—you must find them. You must also build your confidence, based on what you are learning, so you can be "open" enough to share with your chosen team (see below) "where" you are emotionally, at all times. If you don't trust them, or are afraid, you must tell them. You must learn to speak up and be persistent. No, its not fair when one is frightened and ill, but this is YOUR life. I am here to help you, and I have others who will, too. Use us!

NEVER FORGET: Patients have the best outcomes when they leave their places of residence for diagnosis and treatment, and also use oncology surgeons who have performed the greatest number of operations each patient requires ! So, ask questions and reach out!

The Team approach to healthcare is the best defense against litigation.

I know its difficult to confront authority figures, especially those whom you are thinking of trusting with your life, but you won't be doing that.

You will be in charge of your team and inviting members you want on the team. Its time to take charge of your healthcare by finding the most competent, caring team that you can find.

Be "open" about your fears, or feelings—you may fax a letter or mail one to whomever it is. Use your computer, and fax doctors after you see them to "clarify our visit," because that goes in your case file.

The busiest and best clinicians (specialists) will give you their e-mail addresses. Yes, they are busy, but as they help you, you will become more aware of their time, and your team will develop into a group of physicians, friends, family, whomever you desire, caring about each other with understanding and an open tolerance for one another.

The majority of women do not have accurate information about their healthcare, and certainly not about breastcancer, nor have we been told the truth about it. We have been the object of grand marketing campaigns to convince us that in order to detect breastcancer early we must stay within a set package of information, volunteer, run races, be called "Survivor" if treated for breastcancer and lived through it, believe that if the BC doesn't come back in 3-5 years they are "In Remission," and raise funds.

First, there are no objective, clinical analyses to prove breastcancer is gone, or "in remission." In fact, BC unlike other cancers is multi-centric by definition, and women must know that, remain vigilant, and work closely with their oncologists, for the rest of their lives. Its a new journey, and one of the things in life over which we have little control. But, we are learning more each day about these not-so-foreign invaders, as we once thought.

That is why you must follow experts' advice, and seek the best brains you can get to, no matter how much you have to put forth an effort.

Others will help you.

Women who've had BC should be in chariots with their caregivers running along side of the grand vehicles!

Some women have questioned the breastcancer advise of the past few decades because of their own education, experience, or following their gut instincts, but now is the time to think out of "the box," ask questions, seek the truth, and decide for yourself the direction you want to follow, but always remember, you are in charge of our healthcare, and need to build a team of trustworthy experts you have selected, and will view you as head of your team (more on this later in the site). We've noticed that there is little or nothing based in PREVENTION (don't fret, the oncology seminars are similar—those of us "in Prevention" are often the only ones not at the lavish  evening banquets!
